Klaus VeitingerKlaus Veitinger, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Veitinger has been Chairman of Promentis since April 2008. In a 16-year pharmaceutical career, Dr. Veitinger has held senior management positions in drug development, licensing and business development, strategic planning and M&A, as well as general management. Most recently, Dr. Veitinger was a Member of the Executive Board of Schwarz Pharma AG and the Chief Executive Officer of Schwarz Pharma, Inc. with responsibility for the US and Asian business. Dr. Veitinger is currently a Venture Partner at OrbiMed Advisors LLC, the largest healthcare investment firm. His focus is on growing start-up and mid-stage companies through active private equity investments and structured transactions of small capitalization public companies. Dr. Veitinger served as a Director of BoneCare International and as Vice Chairman of AnorMED Inc. until their ultimate sale. He served on the Board of Aryx Pharmaceuticals and was a Director of the Board of the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. Dr. Veitinger is also a member of the Board of Chroma Therapeutics and Biolex Therapeutics. Dr. Veitinger earned his medical degree and his doctorate in pathophysiology from the University of Heidelberg and his MBA from INSEAD. He has published and received awards in both the scientific and business field.

Daniel LawtonDaniel Lawton
Mr. Lawton has been Promentis’ President and CEO since early 2008 and has over fifteen years of experience in the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry. Prior to joining Promentis, Mr. Lawton was Vice President and General Counsel of Schwarz Pharma, Inc. where he was a member of the US senior management group. His previous work experience includes a number of senior positions at Abbott Laboratories supporting its US, Canadian, European and Japanese businesses, with a focus on new business development, licensing, acquisitions and related transactions. Mr. Lawton has practiced law at firms in Europe and the United States. He is a graduate of Harvard Law School and was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard University (Economics under Professor Martin Feldstein).

Patrick Schwarz-SchuettePatrick Schwarz-Schuette
Mr. Schwarz-Schuette has been a member of the Promentis Board since 2009 and is currently the Managing Director of Black Horse Investments GmbH in Dusseldorf. Mr. Schwarz-Schuette previously led Schwarz Pharma AG as Chairman of its Executive Board for more than a decade (1992 to 2006), culminating in the sale of the Schwarz group to UCB in a transaction valued at approximately six billion US Dollars. Before assuming the role of Chairman, Mr. Schwarz-Schuette was a member of the Schwarz Pharma Executive Board since 1988 and previously led a Schwarz operating company (Sanol GmbH) as its General Manager. Early in his career, Mr. Schwarz-Schuette was a Management Consultant at Booz Allen & Hamilton and received his diploma in business administration from the University of Hamburg.

David BakerDavid A. Baker, Ph.D.
Dr. Baker cofounded Promentis Pharmaceuticals in 2007 and currently serves as a Director and chairs the Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Baker is also Associate Professor and Associate Chair in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Marquette University. He previously served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Medical University of South Carolina in the laboratory of Peter Kalivas. He obtained his Ph.D. at Arizona State University in 1999 and his B.S. at Montana State University in 1992 working in the laboratories of Dr. Janet Neisewander and Dr. Michael Babcock, respectively. Dr. Baker has had an active research career examining the neurobiological basis of diseases of the brain, as evidenced by his 30 publications in the past 18 years and 10 grants or awards over the past six years totaling $2.8M. Dr. Baker was featured in the Marquette Magazine cover story (Winter 2009 issue) “Searching for a Cure for the Brain’s Darkest Diseases” and was a recent recipient of The Business Journal’s Forty under 40 Award, honoring Milwaukee’s up-and-coming leaders. Dr. Baker is the recipient of the 2010 Daniel X. Freedman Award from NARSAD for outstanding basic research achievement.

Edward BarthellEdward Barthell, M.D.
Dr. Barthell, who has acted as an advisor to Promentis since the company’s incorporation, is currently Director of Business Development for Microsoft’s Health Solutions Group, emphasizing Connected Health and Health Information Exchange market development. Dr. Barthell attended medical school in Madison and practiced as a board certified emergency physician for over 20 years in Wisconsin. Dr. Barthell was co-founder and Chief Medical Officer of EMSystem, a provider of networking software in emergency medicine, currently utilized by over 35% of the nation's hospitals. He is a founder and previous president of the National Institute for Medical Informatics, the sponsor of the Wisconsin Health Information Exchange (WHIE), and he also served as lead consultant for the District of Columbia Regional Health Information Organization. Dr. Barthell served as the executive vice president and CIO for Infinity HealthCare Inc., a 130+ physician group practice emphasizing emergency medicine. He has received research funding for informatics projects from a variety of sources.

Thomas M. Shannon Thomas M. Shannon
Mr. Shannon has been a Promentis Director since early 2010. He was Chief Executive Officer of Prodesse, Inc. from 2002 until Prodesse’s sale to Gen-Probe, Inc in November of 2009 for a purchase price of $87 million, including expected milestones. He has over 25 years of business experience, much of it in senior level positions. In 1996, he founded Shamrock Partners, the lead investment group in Prodesse's initial funding in 2002. From 1997-1999 he acquired and was CEO of three regional transportation companies. Prior to that, Mr. Shannon held a variety of senior level management positions in sales and general management as a registered principal for Equitable and its subsidiaries, including Alliance Capital and Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette. Earlier in his career, Mr. Shannon founded and was President of Shannon Financial Associates, Inc. He holds a Finance BBA from the University of Wisconsin and earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC) credentials.

Virinder NohriaVirinder Nohria, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Nohria, who has been a Promentis Director since early 2010, is a board-certified neurologist with special qualifications in child neurology. He did his medical training at the University of Cambridge in England. His postgraduate training was completed in the UK and the US. He also holds a Ph.D. in Neuropharmacology. He has over 15 years of experience in international drug development for large and small pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. He has worked for Eli Lilly and UCB Pharma and most recently was Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Xcel Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical company in neuroscience that was acquired by Valeant International in 2005 for nearly $300 million. Dr. Nohria has been involved in the submission of several NDA/MAA, and has frequent interactions with the FDA. He is a non-executive director of Allergy Therapeutics plc (AIM: AGY), a UK based specialty pharmaceutical company. He is also Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President of Alaven Pharmaceuticals Inc., a privately held specialty pharma company with over 160 employees. He has published more than 40 scientific articles and book chapters. He was on the faculty of the medical school at the University of Virginia and was an adjunct faculty member of Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta. He is currently an adjunct Clinical Professor at Mercer University in Atlanta.
